Abstract: Lagos state government has announced plans to expedite action on backlog of planning approval applications
Following the stakeholders meeting held between March 19th and May 7th 2009 by the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development through one of her parastatals, the Lagos State Physical and Development Authority (LASPDDA) and the general public, the state government has announced plans to expedite action on backlog of planning approval applications with it.
In a widely published public notice signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the state government said it has discovered that several applications undergoing processing for Building Plan Approval were not concluded because certain required documents were yet to be produced by applicants and that in some cases pertinent issues concerning such application needed to be urgently addressed by applicants whose applications are yet to be approved.
Though affected applicants are however advised to check the government’s website www.lagosstate.gov.ng, click on parastatals, then select LASPPDA for comments on their applications and thereafter go to the respective Town Planning District Offices to resolve outstanding issues, a check on the Lagos State Government’s website shows that applicants can actually access comments on their pending application by going to the space for Special Announcements and then clicking on Building Plan Application Submitted between 2004-2008 and then on download. Some of the comments found on some of the pending applications include: Applicant has not responded for site inspection, Alpha Betta/ Account problem not yet cleared, No regularisation with state government, Applicant yet to submit title documents among others.
